A look back at history

Time flies when you are having fun.
I started reporting on sports in St. Landry Parish back in 1996.
So 21 football seasons later, I wanted to look back in time and try to remember when I first begun the tri-parish trek to cover schools in St. Landry, Acadia and Evangeline parishes.
Eunice High head coach Paul Trosclair was entering his second season with the Bobcats after a 8-2 overall record and finished as district runners-up at 4-1 as present EHS assistant coach Andre Vige concluded his senior season as quarterback.
In 1996, the Bobcats went 10-2 and earned a spot in the regional round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
Today, Troslair has a 214-92 overall record and is entering his 22nd year with the Bobcats.
St. Edmund head coach Scotty Richard was entering his third season with the Blue Jays.
Richard had gone 17-5 the first two seasons, including 8-3 overall and finished 5-1 as district runners-up in 1995.
The Blue Jays went 4-6 in 1996 as present Iota head coach Josh Andrus was quarterback – and Dan Christman took over as head coach in 1997.
This season, Andy Hargroder enters his first year as the Blue Jays head football coach.
The Basile Bearcats rolled to a perfect 10-0 regular season and won the District title at 6-0 under the direction of head coach Steve Duplechin.
The Bearcats were upset in the playoffs by Delcambre (20-19) in the opening round of the playoffs,
In 1996, Basile finished 11-3 and advanced to the state semifinals with quarterback Jeremey Ashford.
Today, Kevin Bertrand enters his second season at Bearcats head coach.
In Church Point, the Bears finished 6-4 overall in 1995 and tied for the district title as head coach Mark Millett expected great things in 1996.
But in 1996, the Bears struggled to a 3-7 record.
In 1995, Iota finished 4-6 overall and 2-3 in District 6-2A, a dissapointing run for head coach Rick Wriborg.
In 1996, the Bulldogs finished 8-4, led by quarterback Brent Miller.
Over at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, head coach Keith Menard entered his second season with the Trojans and was hoping to recover from a 1-9 finish in 1995.
Sacred Heart rebounded with an impressive 10-2 overall record went 6-0 in district in 1996.
This year, Josh Harper is in his second season with the Ttojans.
Veteran Ville Platte head coach Elton Williams led his Bulldogs to a 6-5 record in 1995 and finished for a three-way tie for the disrict title along with Church Point and Oakdale.
In 1996, the Bulldogs finished 5-5.
Now, Jorie Randle enters his third season as VIlle Platte head coach.
In Mamou, head coach Kevin Manuel had led the Green Demons to four playoff seasons in six years.
In 1996, the Green Demons finished 6-5 overall and 3-2 in District 7-2A.
This season, Brian Brumfield enters his ?? year as Mamou’s head coach.
At LSU in 1996, Eunice product Trey Langley was a freshman offensive lineman, following in the footsteps of his father Willis Langley, Jr.
Gerry DiNardo entered his second season and the Tigers rolled to a 10-2 record and defeated Clemson 10-7 in the Peach Bowl.
This season, Trey’s son Tayte Langley is a sophomore offensive guard and defensive end for the Bobcats.
Shelton Langley is entering his senior season as an offensive lineman with the Bobcats.
