A 31-year-old Eunice man was killed and a 31-year-old Church Point woman wounded in a shooting that occurred on Shelton Manuel Road near Eunice, a news release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz stated.
KATC is reporting Kenneth Prather, 34, of Duscon, has been charged with second-degree murder, possession of schedule I drugs, possession of schedule II drugs, possession of schedule III drugs, and possession of schedule IV drugs.
A report from Lt. Clay Higgins, sheriff’s spokesman said deputies learned of the incident from a 911 call at 8:09 a.m. Sunday, he said.
Detectives determined the men had become involved in an argument inside a residence, which escalated into a shooting, he said.
The Eunice man was killed and the Church Point woman was struck in the arm with a non-life threatening wound, he said.
The woman was treated and released from Acadian Medical Center, he said.
Detectives said the Eunice man died prior to their arrival, he said, and the body was released to Quirk’s Funeral Home after the investigation.
The woman and man were detained, he said.
Higgins said a handgun and shotgun were removed from the scene.
Guidroz said in the news release, “Our detectives are conducting a very thorough investigation and we will determine precisely what happened inside that residence. Everypossible scenario will be considered. If probable cause exists for charges to be filed, then my detectives will most certainly move forward with the appropriate arrest or arrests. After this initial phase of the investigation has concluded, then we will release the associated names and details. Until then, further information will not be released.”
