Jack Venton Venable Jr.

Man charged with sex crimes involving teen

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of juvenile, a news release from Lt. Clay Higgins, public information officer for St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Jack Venton Venable Jr. was arrested in Dallas, Texas, but has a Lafayette address, Higgins said.
The charges involve a 16-year-old juvenile, the news release stated. No sex was named for the alleged victim.
Higgins declined to say where the alleged crimes occurred.
The investigation began in February when the juvenile’s mother contacted St. Landry Parish detectives and provided a video file from a cell phone which depicted graphic sexual conduct, Higgins said.
Venable, who was arrested on May 27, is being held on $20,000 bail awaiting trial. His charges carry a potential sentence of 10 years in jail at hard labor, he said.
Guidroz said, “Our detectives carefully investigated the allegations against Venable and probable cause for his arrest was presented to a 27th Judicial judge. A warrant was issued for his arrest on April 2 2015. The suspect was apprehended in Dallas Texas, and subsequently extradited to our jail. Jack Venable Jr. will have his day in court. The case against him is solid and we expect that his prosecution will move forward accordingly.”
