St. Landry Parish man dies after vehicle crash

A two vehicle crash on La. 749 near Armory Road north of Opelousas has claimed the life 38-year-old Herbert Rideau. 
This morning, shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on La. 749 north of Opelousas and found Rideau, of Opelousas, was driving a 1995 Toyota truck north on the highway.
For unknown reasons, Rideau ran off of the right side of the roadway, into a private lot and struck an18-wheeler logging truck head on, police report.  Rideau was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries, police stated. Rideau and was pronounced dead on scene. 
The logging truck was unoccupied at the time of the crash, police said.
Police aid it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash.  Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, the Troop I news release stated.
