Woman accused of theft at Eunice Housing Authority
A Eunice Housing Authority employee was booked into the Eunice City Jail Thursday on charges of felony theft and filing or maintaining false public records.
Bail was set at $3,500 in district court for Melissa Ann Rene, 44, of the 100 block of Tamaran Loop, Eunice, Lt. Richard Daigle said.
Rene was an employee of the Eunice Housing Authority, he said.
Police began an investigation on July 24 in reference to a theft at the Eunice Housing Authority.
In a news release police said, the manager had discovered discrepancies with tenants receipts. Upon further investigation by the manager it was found that receipts were falsified, altered and also discovered that some receipts were missing, police said.
Video surveillance depicted the suspect taking documentation from the office, the news release stated.
The suspect employment was terminated and later gave a statement of her actions, the news release stated.
Police estimated the theft at $1,890.80.
