Darious Richard dodges a diving Crowley defender in last week's loss. The Bobcats close this week against Beau Chene.

Bobcats need to stay focuse in finale against Beau Chene

The Eunice High Bobcats will attempt to get back on the winning track Friday as they travel to take on the Beau Chene High Gators.
With last week’s 28-20 loss to Crowley, the Bobcats fell to 5-4 overall and to 3-2 in district 4-4A.
The loss kept the Cats from controlling their own destiny as far as a district title is concerned. They must defeat the Gators and hope that Washington-Marion pulls off an upset over LaGrange. That would throw the district race into a four-way tie among Crowley, Rayne, LaGrange, and Eunice.
Bobcat head coach Paul Trosclair would like to see his team play well against the Gators.
“I’d like to see us bring the practice field to the game field,” said Trosclair. “We need to be focused mentally and limit mistakes with a playoff game coming up next week.”
Trosclair believes that his offense needs to maintain some balance against the Gators. Senior running back Darious Richard tops the Cats in rushing with 181 carries for 932 yards and eight touchdowns.
The passing game has managed a total of 467 yards through nine games. Sophomore quarterback Alex Richard has completed 41 of 82 passes for 433 yards. The leading receiver for the Cats is senior Jerwaski Thomas with 24 catches for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
On defense, the Bobcats need to stop the run and force the Gators to throw the football, said Trosclair.
“They’re much better running the ball than throwing it,” he commented. “We’d like to get them out of their comfort zone.”
Cody Williams leads the Gators in rushing with 79 carries for 390 yards and four touchdowns. John Livings led the team with 70 rushing yards and a touchdown in last week’s loss to Rayne.
The Bobcat defensive unit is led by senior linebacker Brennan Ashley with 110 total tackles. Sophomore Ajyh Johnson has 81 total tackles.
Jerwaski Thomas leads the defense with five interceptions. Andrew Lomas has 10 pass breakups to lead the Cats.
Beau Chene enters the game with an overall record of 2-7 and a district mark of 1-4.
