10 applicants for top school job selected

Ten applicants have been selected for consideration by the St. Landry Parish School Board for the superintendent’s position.
The Board scheduled a meeting on Sept. 15 to decide on the number of finalists and procedures for hiring its next superintendent.
The Board’s advertisement for the job stated the salary range is $128,000 to $160,000 a year.
The contract for the current superintendent, Edward Brown, ends Dec. 31.
The 10 applicants are Dr. Pat Cooper, Dr. Ina Faye Delahoussaye, Dr. James Gray, Patrick Jenkins, Dr. Arronza LaBatt, Dr. Charles Michel, Dr. Esrom Pitre, Dr. Dinah M. Robinson, Dr. Quentina Timoll and Francis Touchet Jr.
The applicants provided information about themselves in their own formats. School Board members were given packets of the submitted information at Thursday’s Board’s meeting.
Perhaps the most well-known of the applicants is Cooper, who served as Lafayette Parish superintendent from 2012 to 2015. The School Board terminated in a public dispute.
Cooper also served as superintendent for the McComb, Mississippi, School District from 1997 to 2007 and as superintendent for the West Feliciana school district from 1989 to 1993.
Cooper has a doctorate in education in administration from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley.
Delahoussaye is director of technical assistance for school improvement in the Calcasieu Parish School System.
She has a doctorate of philosophy in psychology from the Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Gray is director for school leadership in the Vermilion Parish School District.
He has doctorate of eduction in educational leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Jenkins is principal at Copper MIll Elementary School in Zachary Community School District
. He has master of education degree in administration and supervision from Southern University.
LaBatt is acting director of the equity initiatives unit in the Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland.
She has a doctorate of education in educational administration and policy studies from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
Michel is special education director in the Lafourche Parish School District.
He did doctoral studies in education and educational leadership at Sam Houston (Texas) State University.
Pitre is an associate professor and coordinator of an educational leadership program at Southern University.
He has a doctorate from Colorado State University.
Robinson is part-time at Western Governor’s University.
She has a doctorate in education administration from the University of New Orleans.
Timoll is assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction in the St.John the Baptist School District.
She has doctorate in education leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Touchet is a network leader in the Louisiana Department of Education.
He has a master in education from the McNeese State University.
Joiner said four the applicants did not meet the qualifications set by the Board. They are Dr. Calvin Lewis, Daniel Noel, Dr. Geneva Stark and Dr. Kurt Green.
