Boudreaux takes oath as District 24 senator

Gerald Boudreaux, a Lafayette Democrat and the new state senator for District 24, is one of 11 new senators sworn into office during an organizational session of the senate at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge.
“I am committed to serving and working for the residents of District 24 and with my colleagues in the Legislature to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the State of Louisiana,” Boudreaux said in a news release.
The newly seated senator plans to focus on increasing connectivity between elected officials and residents and enhancing educational opportunities, supporting economic development, with an emphasis on community development, and increasing access to health care facilities and programs, Boudreaux stated.
Boudreaux is the director of the Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department and has a degree in education from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He serves on the board of Directors for the Miles Perret Cancer Services Center, Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Committee.
In addition to his community and civic responsibilities, Boudreaux was an active NCAA college basketball official for 28 years and was selected to work the Final Four five times during his career. He also served as the supervisor of men’s basketball officials for the Southeastern Conference from 2006 to 2013.
Boudreaux and his wife Carlos have three daughters, Brittney, Whittney and Hallie. The family attends Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where Boudreaux serves as trustee.
