City revenue, expenses about what expected for two months

The City of Eunice’s revenue and expenses were about on par with the percentage of the fiscal year elapses through Aug. 31, according to the latest financial information available.
The statement of operations completed last week showed the city with revenues for the first two months of its fiscal totaling $2.39 million and expenses of $2.47.
The operating deficit of about $76,000 for the two months compares to one of $137,000 in the same period last fiscal year and one of $543,000 in the the first two months of the year before that.
The city’s fiscal consultant, CPA Steve Moosa, noted in June when the City Council adopted Mayor Rusty Moody’s budget proposal that it contains no major spending changes while revenues are expected to remain flat.
Through Aug. 31, total city expenses were up about $20,000 from the same period last year while revenues were up about $82,000, reflecting a spurt in sales tax and utility revenue.
For the first two months of the fiscal year:
The General Fund took in $1.07 million and spent $1.24 million;
The Sales Tax Fund received $940,000 and spent $881,000;
The Utility Fund had income of $375,000 and expenses of $337,000;
The Liberty Theater revenue was $9,400 and expenses were $12,600.
The only significant disparity in line item spending by the various budget units was the Police Department overtime.
Through Aug. 31, the department had spent one third of its overtime budget for the year.
Overtime expense for the first two months (16.6% of the year) was about $56,800. The OT budget for the entire year is $165,000.
The department’s payroll and overtime budget this year is the same as last, one of the issues which led council members Scott Fontenot and Roland Miller to vote against accept the spending plan at June’s council meeting.
The budget includes no changes in wage/salary and overtime estimates from Fiscal Year 2012-13 for any city department.
