City elections were took place on Oct. 3. Among the races, the election for police chief entered a runoff between incumbent Charles Manuel and challenger Gary “Goose” Fontenot. Others in the race were Terry Darbonne and Houston Guillory.
Movies showing at the Queen Cinema were “Antz,” “Rush Hour,” and “Urban Legend.” Ticket prices were $4.50 for adults and $3.25 for children and senior citizens.
John R. Young advertised a new 1998 pickup truck — well equipped — priced at $15,900. 
A summer tea party was featured on the Lifestyle pages. Among those pictured at the home of Peter and Regina Berzas, of Eunice, were Abby Berzas, Monique Landry, Victoria Marcantel, Mary Elizabeth Marcantel, Ashley Lafleur and Olivia Chepelle. 
Newly elected 4-H Club officers at Highland Elementary were Lea Dupre, president; Brittany Reed, vice president; Amber Alvarado, treasurer; and Brittany Goodley, secretary. 
The Elton Indians defeated St. Edmund 706. Mark Domingue scored for the Blue Jays with 27-yard and 31-yard field goals. 
The Eunice High Bobcats dominated a contest with the Tioga Indians in a 33-7 win. Scoring for the Bobcats were Spencer Ardoin, 1-yard run; Ardoin 5-yard run; Derrick Allison, 93-yard run; Aucoin, 7-yard run; Chip Malveaux, 5-yard run; and John Moreau, extra point kick.
