George Medicis, brother of John Medicis of Eunice, has been killed in action. He was a deck engineer with the Merchant Marine.
Aviation Cadet Beamon Ross, nephew of Mrs. W. S. Haley, who is the wife of the First Baptist Church pastor, was killed in a training flight crash in Texas.
Avit Bollich of this city has received word that his son Andrew is missing in action in North Africa since June 24. His brother James is a prisoner of the Japanese.
A vast majority of the U.S. Army outfits in Sicily were trained for war in Louisiana, taking part in the 1941 maneuvers. The 82nd Airborne was converted from ground to air at Camp Claiborne near Alexandria and for months its soldiers trained in Louisiana and East Texas.
The McManus Market, 112 Second St., is the collection point for war-fats, from which will be made glycerine, gun power and bombs.
Father Jules Jeanmard said the new Lions Club here, of which he is a member, is supporting the new canning and hydration project under construction near the Eunice high school.
The price panel of the Parish War Price and Rationing Board has been organized, with Wilson Moosa, John Clark and Burke Manuel the members of the Eunice panel.
The first bale of 1943 cotton ginned in Eunice was that of Cleve Courville, brought to town from the Lawrence Amy farm a mile east of the city. The 550-pound bale was classed as middling and sold for 21 cents a pound. It was ginned July 27.
State Director of Selective Service Raymond Fleming has suspended induction until the rice harvest season is over due to the shortage of farm labor.
Eunice’s new banking firm, known as Tri-Parish Bank, has acquired quarters in the Wilfert Building at Second & Park and will open Oct. 1, according to president Dr. Harry Jenkins.
Raymond Aguillard’s new cleaning and pressing shop will soon be open on North 2nd, across from The New Era office. He now occupies a building opposite the post office and has purchased property on which Mr. Magee formerly operated a fruit and vegetable store.
Mrs. Willard Young has a six-room house for sale at the corner of St. Louis and West Maple. Price is not advertised.
Coach Faize Mahfouz was appointed Eunice High principal.
