Gabriel Patton is the first male student to try out for the Eunice High School Color Guard and make the team.

New board members of the Eunice Ladies Tennis League are Loretta Simon, Janet Prudhomme and Lonel White.

Drake Fruge, Eunice Elementary fourth-grader, placed at the Junior Parish Math Contest.

Marsela Jakub-Wood, a junior at Eunice High, won a $2,500 scholarship from Discover Card.

Joseph DeVillier of Eunice made the Dean’s List (3.5 to 3.9 GPA) at Louisiana College this spring.

St. Edmund’s baseball players Caleb Babineaux, third baseman, and Chris Caswell, shortstop, were named to the Class A all-state team.

Eunice High shortstop Wesley Turner and third baseman Josh Soileau were named to the 4A all-state team. Pitcher Sy Aguillard was named honorable mention.

The local price of gasoline has climbed back above $2 after dipping to $1.90 just before Memorial Day.

Ashley Denell Cesar, daughter of Rickey and Edwanda Cesar of Eunice, has graduated cum laude from Xavier University, New Orleans. She plans to pursue her master’s at Indiana University Medical School.

Eunice native Kevin Ardoin was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the annual baseball draft. The former St. Edmund’s star has been pitching for ULL.

The City Council approved a new law limiting households to two dogs over the age of three months, but said it will be enforced only if there are complaints.

Professor of English Dr. Susan LeJeune received the LSUE Foundation Teaching Excellence Award for 2005.

The City Council delayed annexation of Happy Hill until sewerage issues are resolved and began the annexation process for Le Village de Maison, east of the city.

The City Council has rejected as too expensive borrowing $7 million to get its roads up to standard because the 10-year payback amounts to $9 million. It did authorize a $12,500 study by Aucoin & Associates to survey the city’s streets and roads.

Police Chief Gary Fontenot was injured when his vehicle was struck broadside by an allegedly drunk teenage driver.

E.B. Feucht & Sons was awarded the $2.5 million contract to construct the new Eunice Recreation Complex.
