Preparations for Eunice’s annual 4th of July Fireworks display have started early with some Christmastime fundraising.
Kenneth Peart, organizer of the City of Eunice’s Fourth of July fireworks display, said, “Each year, I always say that the next year’s fireworks display will bigger and better than the year before. Troy and Brian (Wisdom), out of the kindness of their hearts, have come down here during the holiday season to help make sure that the next Fourth of July fireworks display is bigger and better.”
The Wisdoms are the owners of All American Fireworks of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Peart has worked with the company for the last 25 years to supply the fireworks for the summertime display. The Wisdom brothers, along with Troy’s son, Tyler, will sell fireworks from now until Jan. 2 at their tent next to Peart’s business, the Drug Testing Consortium at 102 E Maple Avenue. The fireworks stand will be closed Christmas Eve day and Christmas Day, and first responders, law enforcement and military receive 20 percent off fireworks purchases.
“This is a six-generation, family-owned business,” Peart said. “I’ve worked with them since Troy and Brian’s dad ran the business. This is the first time they have come down here to open a stand, and they will donate a percentage of the sales to the Fourth of July fireworks fund.”
Tuesday’s overcast weather had thrown the Midwesterners for a loop.
“This is some crazy Christmas weather,” Brian said. “We went from sweat shirts to shorts, and I’ve never seen mosquitoes in December. Normally we’ve got cold and snowing with ice in Missouri at this time of the year.”
