Here’s the Beef Cook-off returns for 31st year
The 31st Annual Here’s the Beef Cook Off & Trail Ride will take place March 6 and is put on by the St. Landry Parish Cattlemen’s Association.
The event is to showcase beef and the many ways it can be prepared.
For the past 30 years festival-goers have come out to the Yambilee Ag Arena and sampled dishes such as brisket, roast, stews, and beef tongue all for a $5 entry fee.
Awards are given for first and second place, overall champion, reserve champion, best booth décor, and best-dressed team.
This year, the cook off will host a cattle dog demo from noon to 12:30 p.m. and the traditional non-motorized trail ride will leave at 8:30 a.m. Participation in the trail ride cost $15, which also includes samples at the cook-off.
Alex Touchet will play from 10 a.m. to noon and Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin’ Cajuns perform from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Refreshments will be sold, so no ice chests. The non-motorized trail ride is sponsored by the St. Landry Parish Cattlemen and Cattlewomen, and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Opelousas Lions Club.
