Maple Avenue is on council’s agenda

By Harlan Kirgan Editor

The condition of West Maple Avenue is back on the Eunice Board of Aldermen’s agenda on Tuesday.
The Board is to meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Eunice Municipal Complex, 300 S. 2nd St.
Maple Avenue, La. 91, has been the subject of several city meetings as aldermen pass resolutions asking the state to resurface it from the Crowley turn to its intersection with Bobcat Drive.
On the agenda Tuesday is Bill Oliver, state Department of Transportation and Development district engineer administrator.
With Oliver on the agenda is state Rep. Phillip DeVillier, R-Eunice.
DeVillier was at the June city meeting where he discussed the options for state-owned roads in Eunice.
The representative’s presentation to the aldermen came as they approved what was said to be their 14th resolution to state officials in 10 years about the state-owned roads, in particular Maple Avenue.
State road crews have responded to city complaints in the past few months including improvements to drain openings on U.S. 190 and patching on La. 13.
The board’s agenda, as of Friday, includes the following:
— Introduction of Miss Eunice, Teen Eunice and other categories.
— George Mouledoux of National Corrosion on public awareness regulations for the gas department.
— Opelousas-Eunice Library Board appointment for the seat vacated by Alma Reed.
— LSUE nominees to two seats on the Civil Service Board.
— Resolutions to support House bills concerning the police department. One is to give the police chief the authority to hire, discipline and fire civil service employees in the police department. The other resolution is change how promotions are made in the police department.
