Recycling centers to collect household hazardous waste

The St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Disposal District will accept household hazardous waste on Saturday at its recycling centers in Eunice and Opelousas.
The waste will be accepted from residents of St. Landry Parish. Participants must show proof of residency such as driver’s license or utility bill.
The district lists paints, automotive batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives, medications, tires (limit of five per person), fluorescent tubes and bulbs, cell phones, cell phone batteries, computers, monitors, printers, scanners and other hazardous household waste, as acceptable.
The collection is for households. Waste from businesses, farms or commercial operations is not accepted.
Prohibited waste includes infectious and medical waste, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives.
The Eunice center, 450 N. CC Duson St., will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The Opelousas center, 2717 W. Landry St., will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
