Sales tax revenues surge in past 2 months

While year-to-date sales revenues continue to lag behind those in 2015, recent monthly figures are posting gains, according to the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Year-to-date sales tax revenue for Eunice is $4,407,168, down 0.5 percent from the $4,427,327 posted for January through October 2015.
In St. Landry Parish, total sales tax revenue from January through October is $54,453,672, a 1.8 percent decrease from the same period in 2015.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The percentage of decline is easing. In September, the Eunice total to date was down 0.8 percent. In the parish, total sales revenue was down 2.4 percent from January through September.
Monthly revenues were showing improvement.
Eunice sales tax revenue was up 3 percent in October compared to October 2015. October’s Eunice sales tax revenue was $459,149 compared to $445,723, a $13,424 difference.
Compared to September, Eunice sales tax revenues were up 9.9 percent in October. Sales tax revenue for the city jumped by $41,254 from September’s $417,895,
In a trend, the Eunice September revenue was up 4 percent from August revenues.
St. Landry Parish sales tax revenue in October was $6,159,312, up from $5,882,038 — a 4.7 percent increase — from October 2015.
The total parish sales revenue rose $996,309 in October — a 19 percent increase — from September’s $5,163,312.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
