Sheriff taps Thibodeaux for Crime Stoppers

Law enforcement veteran will also be public information officer
Staff Report

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz has named Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux as public information officer and Crime Stoppers spokesman for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The announcement Thursday follows a public split with Clay Higgins, who had held the position for about 16 months. Higgins resigned after Guidroz advised him to tone down Crime Stoppers presentations.
Guidroz said Thibodeaux was selected after an extensive search of qualified deputies within his department.
Thibodeaux said, “I’ve been a policeman for 28 years. I’ve seen a lot of things change and I want to get back the message. Crime Stoppers is locating a missing loved one, your stolen property or a wanted fugitive. I’ve got some different things that we are going to bring up on Crime Stoppers that a lot of people are going to enjoy.”
Thibodeaux is a lifelong resident of Eunice and serves as the Sheriff’s Office director of training and professional development, Guidroz said.
Thibodeaux began his law enforcement career at the Eunice Police Department then joined the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1993.  He is a certified police trainer who also teaches at the St. Martin Police Training Academy. In the early 1990s while employed with former Sheriff Howard Zerangue Sr., Thibodeaux co-hosted the “Sheriff’s Update” and was certified as a public information officer.
Thibodeaux currently assists the sheriff with other written department publications.
“Thibodeaux has risen through the ranks of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department working with department reserve officers, the patrol division, detectives section, narcotics section, and he was a superb K-9 handler and trainer. Major Thibodeaux is a great fit for the public information officer position,” Guidroz said.
