Sheriffs announce $500 scholarships

A $500 scholarship for a St. Landry and Acadia parish high school graduating senior is available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz and Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon announced the scholarship.
Application packets may be picked up at participating high schools in the parish, and completed applications must be received by the sheriff’s office by April 1. The winner will be determined by an independent selection committee, and the recipient will be announced by May 1.
There are no restrictions on the purposes for which scholarship funds may be spent except that they must be utilized in pursuit of a higher education within the state of Louisiana. The recipient of the scholarship must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college or university within the state of Louisiana. The scholarship is not a loan and is awarded as a gift to defray expenses associated with tuition and related expenses. Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana and St. Landry Parish.
