St. Landry Parish voters track state voters on presidential election

Republican Donald Trump won the electoral college with 279 votes to Hillary Clinton’s 228 votes in Tuesday’s election, but in Louisiana and St. Landry Parish the Trump-Michael Pence ticket was a clear favorite.
On Wednesday, the Associated Press reported Clinton was winning the popular vote with 47.7 percent of the 125 million votes that had been counted. Trump had 47.5 percent of the national vote.
In Louisiana. Trump won a commanding 58 percent of the vote to the Clinton-Timothy Kaine 38 percent of the 2,027,731 votes cast.
In St. Landry Parish, Trump won 55 percent of the 39,970 votes cast in the presidential election in the parish. The Clinton team won 43 percent of the vote.
In the state tally, Libertarian candidates Gary Johnson and William Weld won 2 percent of the vote. Green Party candidates Jill Stein and Ajamu Braka won 1 percent of the vote.
The Ward 6 vote in the presidential election is on Page 2. Ward 6 includes Eunice.
The Louisiana Secretary of State website reports 44.6 percent of the voters were Democrats; 29.6 percent Republicans; and 258 percent of the voters listed their party as “other” in Tuesday’s election.
