Sue Soileau Brignac to receive CFA philanthropy award

Community Foundation of Acadiana will honor Sue Soileau Brignac at its sixth annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Nov. 11 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the program is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Brignac has been selected to receive the 2016 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for her leadership, dedication and commitment to St. Landry Parish. Her philanthropy is focused on supporting youth, education and those less fortunate than herself.
As the president/CEO and chairman of the board of Washington State Bank, she oversees community programs sponsored by WSB such as St. Landry Parish Sheriff Guidroz’s popular “Cops for Kids” program. Additionally, the Bank has been a corporate sponsor for Acadiana Outreach Shelter and the perennial sponsor of the Catfish Festival, The Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Banquets, Father Glenn Meaux’s Hobanal Haiti Mission and many other annual events. For the last three years, Washington State Bank has awarded two scholarships annually to finance students at South Louisiana Community College.
Brignac’s business and community involvement is extensive. She has served as a Commissioner of St. Landry Parish Economic Industrial Development District for over 25 years and as the Chairman of the Commission from 1999 until 2011. She serves as the Louisiana representative on the American Bankers Association Community Bankers Council Administrative Committee.
Brignac is one of 13 individuals who will be recognized for making a positive impact in their communities through philanthropy:

Iberia Parish – Phil & Reneé Haney;
Lafayette Parish – James Devin & Ruth Moncus;
St. Martin Parish – Roy & Catherine Poché;
St. Mary Parish – Dr. Alan M. Hoberman & Dr. Mildred S. Christian (1942-2009); and
Vermilion Parish – N. R. Broussard.
In addition to the above award recipients, CFA will present corporate awards to Acadian Companies and Chevron – Gulf of Mexico Business Unit for their outstanding philanthropy in Acadiana. Nominations for all awards were submitted by the community and CFA’s past board of directors made final selections.
Luncheon seats and tables are open to the public and are now on sale. Seats are $75 each, and tables of eight are $500 each.
