4-H Hall of Fame member

BATON ROUGE – Services for former Louisiana 4-H Foundation director Dr. Claude Naquin, Sr. will be Friday. He died Nov. 9 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the South Pacific campaign of World War II. He worked as assistant and associate county agent in Lafourche, St. Landry and Avoyelles Parishes in a 31-year career with the LSU Agricultural Extension Service. He established the 4-H Foundation and was its first director.  He was inducted in the state and national 4-H Halls of Fame.
Survivors include six children.

Former DA

MONROE – Arrangements are pending for former 4th Judicial District Attorney Johnny Carl Parker. He died Nov. 10 at age 80.

UL-L grad school dean

LAFAYETTE – Services for former dean of the UL-Lafayette graduate school Dr. Joan Cain will be Thursday. She died Nov. 10 at age 84.
She taught in the foreign language department before taking the Graduate School dean’s post.
Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.

Grocer

CROWLEY – Services for grocer Robert Prather will be Thursday. He died Nov. 11 at age 70.
He owned a meat market before becoming part owner of P&L Food Mart. He also had a cattle ranch in Central Texas.
Survivors include his wife Valree and a step-daughter.
Arrangements are by Geesey-Fergurson.

Garden Federation leader

RAYNE – Services for former state garden club president Jane Schexnyder Sweeney will be Friday. She died Nov. 8 at age 91.
She was past president of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation and a master judge of flower shows and master landscape design critic. She had also served as state and Deep South chairman of Clean City contests.
Survivors include three sons and five daughters.
Arangements are by Gossen.

Attorney

LAFAYETTE – Services for attorney and part-time assistant attorney general Andrew “Jack” Jumonville are pending. He died Nov. 11 at age 78.
He was senior named partner in Lafayette’s largest law firm when he retired.
Survivodrs include his wife Mary and five children.
Arrangements are by E.J. Fielding.

Asst. fire chief

SHREVEPORT – Services for retired assistant fire chief Bill “Preacher” Jordan, Sr. will be Wednesday in Haughton. He died Nov. 10 at age 86.
He was with the Shreveport Fire Department for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy and two sons.
