LSUE baseball players honored

The LSU Eunice baseball team was hoping to be at the NJCAA Division II World Series this weekend.
But the 2015 national champions were saying their farewells to each other at the Bengals’ annual baseball awards banquet held at the Acadian Center.
The Bengals (51-6) were pushed out the Region 23 tournament after a pair of losses to Jones County Junior College as the Bobcats captured the region title.
LSUE head coach Jeff Willis told the crowd that even with the dissapointment of not returning to Enid, Oklahoma, the team can be proud of its accomplishments.
Freshman catcher Hunter Feduccia earned the team’s Top Defensive Player, while sophomore Erin Baldwin was named Top Pitcher.
The Bengals’ MVP was sophomore outfielder Zach LaFleur and the Coach’s Award went to sophomore outfielder Trenon Trosclair.
The Academic Award was given to Mark Fontenot.
The team set several records this season including 273 stolen bases, 633 runs scored, a 33-game win streak to start the season and a 50-win regular season record.
Nick Coomes moved up the record charts this season with 25 doubles (second place), 81 RBI (third place) and 13 home runs (third place).
LaFleur’s 63 steals moves him in to second place, while his .526 on base percentage ranks him third in Bengal baseball history.
Janson Bourque is now in sixth place with 45 steals.
