2016 prep schedules released

There are great expectations for the area high school football teams as the season begins Sept. 2.
The Eunice Bobcats won the District 5-3A title in 2015 and finished 10-2 overall.
Eunice opens the season at Opelousas High (0-10 in 2015) before the Bobcats’ first home against Jennings (5-6).
After a home game against St. Martinville (6-5), Eunice travels to Crowley (12-1) and Rayne (2-8).
The Bobcats rolled to a 5-0 district record last year and begin their title defense at home against Ville Platte (5-6) on Oct. 7.
Eunice then visits Northwest (10-3) before celebrating homecoming against Church Point (8-4) on Oct. 21.
The Bobcats travel to Port Barre (5-6) before closing the regular season at home against Pine Prairie (3-7).
Veteran coach Andy Hargroder takes over at St. Edmund as the Blue Jays look to rebound from a 4-7 season in 2015.
St. Edmund opens against Class 3-A teams Northwest at home before visiting Iota (1-9).
The Blue Jays entertain Class 2-A Opelousas Catholic (7-4) and former St. Ed head coach Thomas David on Sept. 18.
A trip to Class 3-A Port Barre is followed by a home clash against Class 4-A Beau Chene (5-6).
After five games against higher classification schools, the Blue Jays open District 5-1A play against False River Academy (3-7) on Oct. 7 for homecoming.
St. Edmund then has back-to-back home district games against Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (6-5) and Westminster Christian Academy (6-5).
The Blue Jays close the regular season on the road against North Central (0-11) and rival Basile (10-2).
Church Point expect to battle for the District 5-3A title, but the Bears open with a tough non-district slate.
Church Point has three home games to begin the season against Rayne (2-8), Iowa (7-6) and Kaplan (9-4) .
The Bears then visit Jennings (5-6) and Franklinton (10-4) before opening district play at Port Barre.
Church Point entertains Pine Prairie for homecoming on Oct. 13 before visiting rival Eunice.
Senior Night will be held on Oct. 28 against Northwest before the Bears close the regular season at Ville Platte.
The Basile Bearcats went undefeated in District 5-1A play last season and finished at 10-2 overall.
Basile opens the season at Class 2-A Vinton (3-8) before entertaining Ville Platte and South Cameron (7-5).
A road trip Logansport (8-5) is followed by home games against Port Barre and the district opener with North Central.
The Bearcats will celebrate homecoming against North Central on Oct. 14 before visiting Westminster, False River and Catholic-Pointe Coupee.
Basile concludes the regular season at home against rival St. Edmund.
The Iota Bulldogs are expecting to improve from its finish in 2015.
The Bulldogs open the season with back-to-back road games at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (2-8) and St. Edmund.
Iota entertains Lake Arthur (5-6) before four straight road games against Welsh (12-2), Kinder (14-1) along with district foes Jennings (5-6) and Westlake (2-8).
The Bulldogs celebrate homecoming against Iowa (7-6) on Oct. 21.
Iota closes the season at home against St. Louis (7-4) and South Beauregard (8-3).
Mamou went 0-10 in 2015 and the Green Demons are looking for improvement.
Mamou opens with home games against Ville Plattte and East Beauregard (9-3) before visiting Oberlin (5-7).
The Green Demons conclude its non-district slate at home against Pine Prairie (3-7) and Oakdale (6-6).
Mamou begins District 4-2A play at Lake Arthur (5-6) before entertaining Welsh (12-2) on Oct. 21.
The Green Demons travel to DeQuincy (3-8) and Vinton (3-8) to close the season.
