All is not lost for the Blue Jays after the heartbreaking, last-second 50-46 loss to Pointe Coupee Central last week.

St. Edmund fell from a first-place tie to third place after the loss to the Cougars, but PCC faces Sacred Heart of Ville Platte this week in a battle for the District 5-1A title.

“If Sacred Heart beats Pointe Coupee Central this week and we beat Sacred Heart next week then there will be a tie for the district championship,” St. Edmund head coach Thomas David said. “But for us to be playing for a share of the district title next week, we  have to win this week.”

The Gators are 1-6 overall and 1-2 in district after a 33-18 win last week over North Central.

“They have some decent size kids up front and they  play hard even though things haven’t gone very well for them this year.”

David said the FRA youth has caused some mistakes, but the Gators have some talented athletes.

“We have to be ready for a team that has improved as the season has gone and they have a lot of confidence right now,” David said.

“They had success both running and throwing the ball,” the coach said. “We need to prepare for both.”

The St. Edmund coach said he was proud to see how his team battled against Pointe Coupee Central.

“We need to continue that effort again and play to our best and take control of the game,” the coach said.

St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown has been the leader of the Blue Jay offense with 823 yards rushing (13 TDs) and 1,259 yards passing (19 TDs).

Stone LeJeune (28-439, 7 TDs), Chase Dupre  (27-335, 5 TDs) and Alex Hunt (25-284, 2 TDs) are his main targets.
