Blue Jays ready to battle Hornets

The St. Edmund offense finally got on track with 514 total yards in the 31-28 win over False River Academy.
Through the first five games, the Blue Jays had scored 19 points and averaged 112 yards per game.
“It was a good start to district,” St. Edmund head coach Andy Hargroder said. “We built confidence for the rest of the season.”
Against the Gators, Blue Jay quarterback Peter Miller completed 6-of-8 passes for 153 yards including a 35-yard touchdown toss to Jack Miller.
Miller scored twice against FRA as he had 98 yards rushing on eight carries and added 69 yards on two catches.
Luke Doucet gained 108 yards on 17 carries including a touchdown.
After a key district win, St. Edmund (2-4, 1-0) faces Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (1-5, 0-1) tonight at Blue Jay Field.
CHPC won 44-30 last season in New Roads.
“They run the same offense as us,” Hargroder said of Catholic. “They have to potential for a lot of big plays.
“We need to read the keys and stay with our assignments on defense,” the coach said. “On offense, we need to execute.
“We can’t make mistakes with turnovers or penalties,” he said.
The Hornets opened the season with losses to Ascension Catholic (54-20) and Ascension Episcopal (35-12) before a 27-0 victory over winless St. John,
The Hornets then fell to Varnado (34-12) and Covenant Christian (28-21).
CHPC began district play with a 34-6 loss to Westminster Christian Academy.
“We need to carry over the momentum and just keep going,” Hargroder said of tonight’s game. “We are in a good spot with another win.”
