LEBEAU – The Blue Jay scored on their opening drive and cruised to a 40-0 win over North Central.

St. Edmund (5-2, 2-0 in District 6-1A) entertains Pointe Coupee Central for homecoming this week.

“I thought the guys had focus throughout the game which is what you worry about when you face  a team people perceive a good outcome before you even play the game,” St. Edmund head coach Thomas David  said. “We did a good job of execution  except for the two turnovers and we played well on defense as well.”

St. Edmund’s first drive went 70 yards in just four plays, sparked by a long pass from Drew Brown to Zach LaFleur to move the ball to the North Central 10.

Two plays later, LaFleur scored on a 10-yard run.

The two-point pass attempt failed as the Jays led 6-0 with 10:34 left in the first period.

After a short North Central punt, the Blue Jays moved 56 yards in four plays  aided by a strong run by Brown.

Gibson LaFleur scored from five yards out and Hunt  caught a the two-point conversion pass from Brown as the Jays led 14-0 with 7:16 remaining in the period.

The Blue Jays stopped North Central on fourth down on the next possession and a dead-ball personal foul against the Hurricanes  gave St. Edmund the ball at the NC 20.

Ross LaFleur carried the ball twice on the short drive, including the 5-yard touchdown to push the Jays ahead, 20-0 with 4:30 left in the opening quarter.

After North Central downed the ensuing kickoff at their own 1 yard line, the  Blue Jay defense forced a short 11-yard punt.

But the St. Edmund offense fumbled the ball right back at the North Central 21 with 2:23 left in the period.

The Blue Jays stopped the Hurricanes on a long fourth-down play to take over at the North Central 43.

Four plays later, Chase Dupre hauled in a pass from Brown and raced 28 yards for the score. Kyle Verdugo’s PAT pushed the Jays ahead 27-0 with 9:30 left before halftime.

The Hurricanes mishandled the kickoff and the Jays took over at the North Central 34.

A 20-yard run by Ross LaFleur and a 14-yard scoring scramble by Brown gave the Jays a 33-0 advantage with 7:18 left before intermission.

North Central fumbled on their first play after the kickoff and the Jays recovered near midfield.

The St. Edmund offense moved the ball inside the Hurricane 20 before a fumble halted the drive with 2:36 left in the half.

With running time in the second half, neither team scored in the third period.

After Zach LaFleur picked intercepted Dontaruis Joseph’s pass  at the Hurricane 26, it took six plays for St. Edmund put the final points on the scoreboard.

William Chachere connected with Cole Bergeron for an 8-yard touchdown and Verdugo’s PAT pushed the Jays ahead, 40-0 with 6:07 left in the game.

The Blue Jays rolled up 303 yards on the ground as Ross LaFleur finished with 68 yards on two carries, while Zach LaFleur had 51 yards on three carries.

Gibson LaFleur added 49 yards on eight carries.

Brown finished with 44 yards on five carries, while Alex Hunt had two carries for 40 yards.

Mackie Stagg added 30 yards on nine carries.

Brown completed 2-of-2 passes for 36 yards, while Chachere was 1-for-1 for eight yards.

The St. Edmund defense limited North Central to three first downs and 27 yards of total offense.
