Bobcats visit No. 10 Rayne

By Tom Dodge

RAYNE – For the third time this season, the Bobcats’ defense will have to brace to slow down a quality running back as Eunice High visits the undefeated Rayne Wolves.
No. 10 Rayne opened the season with wins over Church Point (33-3), St. Louis (14-6), Breaux Bridge (28-21) and DeQuincy (55-38).
“I think this is the best team they have had in a while,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said of the Wolves.
Rayne trusts their running game to Travis Winbush who ran for 237 yards on 29 carries last week in the Wolves’ win over DeQuincy.
Darien Harmon added 16 carries for 227 yards and three touchdowns against DeQuincy.
Last week, Crowley’s Keith Wilson gained 146 yards on 24 carries and scored three times, but the Bobcats rallied for a 27-22 win over the Gents.
The second week of the season, Jennings running back Travis Etienne rushed for 147 yards on 16 carries and scored three times to lead the sixth-ranked Bulldogs to a 40-27 win over Eunice.
Last year, Eunice battled for a 19–7 win over the Wolves holding Rayne to 104 yards of total offense.
Last week, Rayne rolled up 603 yards of total offense, including 511 yards on the ground.
“All of their running backs can really run,” Trosclair said of Winbush, Harmon and Johnny Decult. “All three can take it to the house.
“They have a really good receiver in Jaylon Reed,” he added.
Reed had two catches for 92 yards last week including a 84-yard score early in the game.
DeQuincy gained 410 yards against the Wolves, including 189 yards passing.
For two weeks in a row, the Bobcats rallied back to win in the fourth quarter as Eunice earned a 27-22 victory over Crowley.
“Our guys don’t back down or give in easily,” Trosclair said. “They just continue to play hard.
“Sometimes when you do that, good things happen.”
