Bobcats visit OHS Tigers

By Tom Dodge

The Eunice Bobcats open the 2016 season on the road against Opelousas High Friday night at Donald Gardner Stadium.
Last year, the Bobcats rolled to a 48-0 win over the Tigers, led by over 300 yards rushing.
Since 2009, the Tigers have struggled to a 6-64 record including a 0-10 finish last year in OHS head coach Dwight Collins’ first season.
The Tigers’ last win over Eunice was 16-13 in 2006.
In the 20-0 win over Notre Dame in the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree, Bobcat quarterback Jaden Brasseaux completed 8-of-10 passes for 117 yards including scoring tosses to Jordan Ledet (43 yards) and Dashawn Vigers (23 yards).
“There were some good things that came out of it,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “our quarterback threw the ball well and I was pleased with the way our running backs blocked when they needed to.
“This offense requires that they can run, catch and block so that really is a plus for us.
“It will be our first full four quarters so hopefully we are ready,” he said. “This game counts so I know our guys will play hard as we need a good start.”
The Northwest Raiders defeated Opelousas 6-0 in the St. Landry Parish jamboree.
The lone score came on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Damarcus Stevens to Caleb Allen.
“We are looking be able to perform well behind our offensive line,” Trosclair said. “I was pleased with the effort of our defensive line.
“So I am pleased with both of how both sides of the line have performed so far.”
Trosclair said he is pleased with the effort and the attitude of his team heading into the season opener.
OHS finished 0-10 in 2015.
“It was a tough first year for coach (Dwight) Collins,” Trosclair said of his former assistant coach. “They are better than they were last year – they are improving.
“In the first game, everybody is still feeling pretty good,” the coach said. “I know we will get their best shot and we need to be ready.”
