For years, the Eunice-Washington Marion showdown usually had a major  impact on their district title.

Eunice (3-1, 1-0) renews that rivalry this week with a trip to Lake Charles to face Washington-Marion (1-3, 0-1).

The Bobcats won 40-20 in 2008, the last time the two teams met for a district clash as Eunice went on to earn their first undefeated regular season since 1997.

The Bobcats are 8-4 against the Indians since 1995 as Eunice has won the last three match-ups before the Indians had won three in a row.

“We have had some good  game with them in the past,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We have beaten each other a couple of times for district championships.”

Washington-Marion opened the season with a 52-12 loss to Barbe before earning a 18-17 win over Sam Houston.

The Indians have dropped back-to-back games to Sulphur (14-0) and undefeated Rayne (35-21) in last week’s district opener.

“It is tough on the road but we will be there ready to play.”

Washington-Marion’s offense is led by  Quaje Boutte was has completed 43-of-78 passes for 836 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Boutte also leads the team in rushing with 159 yards on 46 carries with  a touchdown.

Desmond Delahoussaye has gained 566 yards on 21 receptions with three touchdowns.

“They have a good quarterback and a great receiver who can present problems,” Trosclair said.

“They throw to him at least 10 times a game so we need to always know where he is on the field.”

The Bobcats have gained 1, 038 yards on the ground so far this season with only 113 yards passing.

“We need to be able to keep running the ball like we have been and complete a few passes to give us a chance,” Trosclair said.

Alex Richard moved into the starting quarterback position and completed 7-of-14 passes for  79 yards in the Bobcats’  42-20 win over Opelousas.

Former signal caller Jake Sonnier moved to a wingback spot (2 catches for 35 yards) and made several key plays at defensive back.

“It really gave us a lot more options because Jake plays two offensive positions and starts on defense,” Trosclair said. “It was a good move for the team.”

The Bobcats were led by Darious Richard who gained 177 yards on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns against the Tigers.

“Our defense has been playing really well and I hope that continues this week,” Trosclair said. “They have such big-play potential from their receivers and we need to keep their quarterback from breaking loose on a run.”

Trosclair said he is hopeful a win over the Indians will help them as they continue on their trek to another district title.

“Our guys will show up and compete, that is all you can ask of them.”
