Bulldogs look to improve

IOTA – The Iota Bulldogs are fighting to improve from its 1-9 finish in 2015.
If the summer workouts give any hints on the future,” second-year head coach Josh Andrus has reasons to believe things are about to get better for Iota.
“We has real good participation in the summer workouts,” he said. “They want to win more and they want to leave the program in a better place than we they got here – and I think it will be.
“The senior class is small but talented, with great leaders,” he said. We are looking to improve each game and make a run for the playoffs.”
The Bulldogs return of eight offensive and seven defensive starters, giving them a wealth of experience heading into the 2016 campaign.
“We will depend heavily on sophomores and juniors,” Andrus said.
Andrus expects a trio of seniors to have good seasons for the Bulldogs including Cade Covalt (wide receiver/cornerback), Bliss Deshazo (kick returner/wide receiver) and Sabian Trahan (tight end/defensive tackle).
The Bulldogs open the season with back-to-back road games at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (2-8) and St. Edmund.
Iota entertains Lake Arthur (5-6 in 2015) before four straight road games against Welsh (12-2), Kinder (14-1) along with district foes Jennings (5-6) and Westlake (2-8).
The Bulldogs celebrate homecoming against Iowa (7-6) on Oct. 21.
Iota closes the season at home against St. Louis (7-4) and South Beauregard (8-3).
“District is always going to be tough,” Andrus said. “But I think by the time we get there, we will be ready.
“I am expecting a better year.”
Iota will hold a scrimmage against Westminster Christian Acadmey on Thursday and will entertain Rayne in the Acadia Parish jamboree on Aug. 25.
