Eunice downs Tigers, 34-6
OPELOUSAS – The Eunice High Bobcats opened their season here Friday night at Donald Gardner Stadium with a 34-6 victory over the Opelousas High Tigers.
Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats lost a fumble on their first possession of the game and the Tigers took over the ball at the Eunice High five-yard line. The Bobcat defense kept the Tigers from taking the lead thanks to a defensive stand.
The Tigers hurt themselves with two penalties, then had a bad snap on a field goal attempt on fourth down.
The Cats also struggled on their second possession before taking the lead with a 69-yard scoring drive in plays. Big plays on the drive included a Jaden Brasseaux pass to Georrein Dupre covering 12 yards and a 26-yard run by Avery Lee. Kenneth Guillory capped the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run. Austin Phillips kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
Coach Dwight Collins’ Tigers answered the Eunice score with a 76-yard scoring drive of their own. The touchdown came on a 59-yard run quarterback Kenny Frazier, Jr., who escaped pressure and raced down the right sideline for the touchdown. The Cats blocked the PAT try to keep the lead by a 7-6 margin.
The Bobcats responded quickly when Guillory returned the kickoff 36 yards to set up the offense. It took the Cats three plays to score, with Dupre breaking away on a 43-yard touchdown run to cap a 54-yard scoring drive. Phillips booted the PAT to put the Cats up 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bobcats added another touchdown on a 9-yard run Lee with 3:36 left in the third quarter. Phillips hit the PAT for a 28-6 lead. Lee added two more touchdowns on runs of one and five yards as the Bobcats built their 34-6 lead.
The Bobcats will host the Jennings High Bulldogs this Friday at Bobcat Stadium.
