No. 8 Bobcats open against Iowa

No. 8 Eunice will begin its trek to the Top 28 at 7 p.m. Friday as the Bobcats play host to No. 25 Iowa.
“We had three goals we wanted to accomplish as a team,” said Bobcat head coach Chad Andrepont.
“We wanted to win the St. Landry Parish Tournament, win the district championship, and make the state playoffs.”
Eunice (21-9, 8-2) earned a 48-45 win over Port Barre as the Bobcats won its first St. Landry Parish tournament since 2005.
The Bobcats clinched the District 5-3A title with a 62-41 win over Pine Prairie last week - their first district championship since 1998.
In 1998, Eunice defeated Leesville in back-to-back games (75-66, 85-73) to earn the District 4-4A title and the Bobcats advanced to the Top 28 semifinals.
In the 1998 playoffs, the Bobcats (24-8) defeated Bolton (65-45), Beau Chene (70-68) and Haughton (71-65) before falling to Woodlawn (62-57).
This is the first playoff appearance for the Bobcats since 2001, when Eunice fell 70-54 at St. Paul’s Acadmey in Covington.
“We accomplished all three goals and we host a playoff game,” Andrepont said.
“Our players bought into everything we talked about. It was 100 percent by the whole team.”
Iowa finished 18-10 overall, 6-4 in District 4-3A behind No. 3 seed St. Louis Catholic (21-4, 10-0), No. 19 South Beauregard (16-12, 6-4) and No. 13 Jennings (17-10, 6-4).
Three other teams from District 5-3A earned playoff berths, all opening the post season on the road.
No. 18 Port Barre (19-9) travels to No. 15 Brusly (19-8, 10-4), while No. 26 Northwest (12-10) visits No. 7 De La Salle (26-5, 8-0).
No. 31 Ville Platte (11-12) travels to No. 2 University High (2-3, 14-0).
In Class 2-A, No. 26 Mamou visits No. 7 Dunham.
The seven top seeds are Natchitoches Central (27-3), St. Thomas More (22-6), Peabody (28-0, 14-0), Lafayette Christian (27-2, 14-0), Simsboro (28-7) and Elizabeth (24-5).
