Richard earns top player honors

There must have been something in the air last Friday night in the Cajun Prairie Capitol as the two games in town finished with over 1,300 yards of total offense and 133 points scored.
Eunice High running back Darious Richard gained 177 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 8, 9, 4, and 39 yards in the Bobcats’ 42-20 win over Opelousas High.
For his efforts, Richard has been selected as the Eunice News Player of the Week for Sept. 22-28.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown completed 19-of-28 passes for 287 yards and four touchdown passes in the Blue Jays’ 36-35 overtime win against Opelousas Catholic.
Brown also added 57 yards on 11 carries and a 5-yard touchdown run.
Chase Dupre hauled in 142 yards on nine catches including touchdowns receptions of 4, 32 and 10 yards for the Blue Jays.
Basile running back Kendrick Ceaser gained 177 yards on 14 carries and scored four times on runs of 50, 40, 4 and 35 yards to go with a 63-yard scoring reception in the Bearcats’ 42-6 win at Merryville. Ceaser had two catches for 75 yards.
Bearcat quarterback Mark Ivory completed 4-of-6 passes for 102 yards, including the touchdown strike to Ceaser.
Church Point running back James Bellard had 106 yards on 10 carries, including touchdown runs of 44 and 16 yards in the Bears’ 41-23 loss at Loreauville.
Iota running back Nick Sloane had 95 yards on 11 carries with a 46 yard touchdown run in the Bulldogs’ 23-14 loss to Welsh.
