St. Landry Parish LEAP scores improve

St. Landry Parish LEAP scores improved in 2016 compared to scores in 2012, the Louisiana Department of Education reported.
In the spring 2016 test results, 30 percent of St. Landry Parish students taking the test scored at the mastery level or greater compared to 16 percent in 2016.

Plan for extra school help rejected

Three low-performing Opelousas schools will not get master teachers as recommended by the St. Landry Parish School Board’s Academic Committee.
The committee approved hiring master teachers for South Street Elementary, Opelousas Junior High School and Washington Elementary School.

Brown says he is staying as superintendent

If the crowd of people at Thursday’s St. Landry Parish School Board meeting expected to see action on hiring a new superintendent, they will have another chance at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
That’s when the board scheduled a special meeting to discuss the details about the hiring process.

School Board keeps options open on superintendent

St. Landy Parish Superintendent Edward Brown’s contract ends Dec. 31, but the School Board isn’t assuring he will stay on the job.
In a 6-5 vote Thursday, the School Board voted against assuring Brown remains on the job until his contract ends.

Energy-saving issue goes to full board

Three energy-saving proposals, which have come up before St. Landry Parish School Board members for several months, will once again land in front of them without a recommendation.
