Kaplan man faces child porn distribution counts

Nabbed in cyber crime investigation

A Kaplan man has been arrested and charged with six counts of distributing pornography involving juveniles, announced Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.
54-year-old Gary Wayne Creed, of 506 West Veterans Memorial Boulevard, was arrested Friday as a part of a joint investigation involving the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit, Louisiana State Police, Vermillion Parish Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations. During an undercover operation utilizing peer-to-peer networks, investigators located Creed exchanging videos and images of child pornography online. After executing a search warrant at Creed’s residence, he was booked into the Vermillion Parish Jail.
“With the help of our local, state and federal partners, we work tirelessly to make Louisiana a safer place for our children,” said Attorney General Caldwell. “Technology is constantly evolving, and our Cyber Crime Unit always has to stay a few steps ahead of the criminals. I am committed to making certain that our Unit has the necessary tools and resources to keep our kids safe from abuse and exploitation at the hands of these dangerous child predators.”
Creed is charged with violating a state law forbidding a person to produce, distribute, possess, or possess with the intent to distribute pornography involving juveniles. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each count.
The Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit investigates computer crimes which have victimized children from infants to 17 years of age. To report suspected cases of Internet crime, call 1-800-256-4506.
