Man allegedly kidnaps estranged wife after stopping her on overpass

A woman was kidnapped by her estranged husband who forced her vehicle off the roadway and dragged her from her car, police said.
Police received several calls around 4 p.m. Friday in which witnesses told them Randolph E. Wayman, 28, of Patterson, had run his estranged wife’s car off the roadway on the U.S. 90 overpass, according to Morgan City Assistant Chief Mark Griffin.
A witness said Wayman had been following the victim’s vehicle with his own. He reportedly forced her vehicle off the roadway to a stop, partially blocking U.S. 90, exited his vehicle and dragged the victim from her vehicle, Griffin said.
Police said witnesses said the female, along with a male occupant of her vehicle, attempted to fend off the attack and were struck several times by Wayman. He was accused of dragging the female to his vehicle and speeding away from the scene, Griffin said.
The witnesses were able to provide officers with information and a description of the vehicle and direction of travel.
Morgan City police detectives determined Wayman was in the Houma area and, with the help of Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department, located Wayman with the victim.
He attempted to flee from officers and was apprehended. Morgan City police arrested Wayman in Terrebonne Parish at 10:13 p.m. Friday.
The victim was returned to Morgan City uninjured after being held by Wayman for a couple hours, Griffin said.
