Woman dies in house fire

A Bordelonville woman died in pre-dawn blaze during a pouring rain Wednesday.
Fire departments from Bordelonville, Moreauville and Simmesport responded to the fire at 107 Bordelonville Road. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the body of Jamie Luneau, 35. She was the sole occupant of the house at the time of the fire.
“We got there around 5:15 a.m. and the house was fully engulfed,” Bordelonville Volunteer firefighter Michael Bordelon said. “It was raining buckets the whole time. It was pouring down.”
Bordelonville Assistant Fire Chief James Gaspard said BVFD units remained on-scene while investigators combed through the destroyed home.
The body was turned over to Avoyelles Parish Coroner Dr. L.J. Mayeux. Mayeux said the report of the fire came in to the parish 911 Center at 5:15 a.m. The fire was under control at 5:36 a.m. The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Wednesday afternoon. It is being investigated by Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Mayeux said it will take 6-8 weeks to get autopsy results on the victim. Until those results are received, the case will continue to be “under investigation.” The investigation may continue after that, he said.
