Careful -- after rain, coulee again teems with life

After two days of rain the coulee is alive again.

It's bank to bank and teeming with activity.

Wood ducks in an adjacent acorn flat can be heard skimming their bounty though we won't see them until near dark.

Every once in a while a fish breaks the surface, one of many that populate the fresh water that spills over from nearby ponds and streams.

The catfish and crappie won't last long. They'll fall victim to our shiners or trot lines.

Most likely raccoons will work the shoreline this evening, gathering crawfish and frogs in the new shallows.

No sign yet of the king of the coulee but it's not far away.

Unless a hunter has got him since the last rainy spell, the gator should be about 10 feet long.

We'll not wander around after dark.
