Eunice police arrest shooting suspect (updated)

Shooting victim refuses hospital care

Eunice police arrested Clarence Malveaux, II, 19, of Eunice, in the shooting of another 19-year-old man, Kamal Mott, also of Eunice on Tuesday, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Malveaux was arrested without incident on Gail Road outside the city limits with the assistance of deputies from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
Officer Talya Fruge was on patrol on Camelia Street when she was flagged down and told about the shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Jelks Street, Fontenot said.
Mott was visiting a friend on Jelks Street when a vehicle pulled up, he said.
Malveaux reportedly exited the vehicle and fired two shots from a .22-caliber pistol.
Fontenot said the first shot missed Mott, but a second shot grazed Mott on the right side of torso.
Two spent casings were found at the scene, he said.
Acadian Ambulance arrived, but the victim refused to be taken to the hospital.
The officer was flagged down about 2:47 p.m. by the victim’s father, he said.
Fontenot said the shooting apparently occurred as the result of a previous fight between the two men.
