Eye scientist
NEW ORLEANS – Services were Oct. 13 for noted eye research scientist and professor Dr. James Hill. He died Oct 9 at age 71.
He held positions with the Medical College of Georgia and the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife Barbara and a son.
EATEL exec
GONZALES – Services will be Thursday for telephone company executive Ruth Scanlan. She died Oct. 14 at age 85.
She was a board member and then chairman of the board of EATEL, a high-tech communications company that began operating out of her family kitchen.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Ourso.
Former councilman
BATON ROUGE – Services for former East Baton Rouge Metro Councilman Charles Kelly will be Friday. He died Oct. 12 at age 74.
He was a real estate broker and former chief of security at Louisiana Technical Institute. He was president of the Southern University Traveling Jaguars.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie and three sons.
Arrangements are by Hall Davis.
Continental Can engineer
QUITMAN – Services for retired head of the Continental Can paper mill engineering department Frank “Red” Stewart will be Thursday. He died Oct. 12 at age 93.
He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine aviation veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Elaine and four children.
Arrangements are by Edmonds.
