Woman says she was chased by clown

By Harlan Kirgan Editor

A 25-year-old woman said she was chased by a clown around Brownie’s on Maple Avenue.
A Eunice Police officer talked to the woman at Acadian Medical Center where she arrived shakened up by the experience.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said it is the first time he has a name of someone reporting seeing a clown here.
But all but one of the sightings have been unconfirmed, he said.
On Oct. 4, police arrested a 17-year-old Eunice man for appearing with a clown mask.
The woman reportedly saw the clown from a residence and fled toward Brownie’s, he said. The woman called a friend about the clown, but did not contact police, he said.
Police checked the video surveillance system at Brownie’s and saw the woman, but not a clown, Fontenot said.
The officer who interviewed the woman at the hospital said she looked like she had seen a ghost, he said.
And she cried when she talked about being chased, he said.
The woman said the clown was carrying a flashlight, he said.
Fontenot said the clown sightings here are unfounded.
“It seems like more than one person would actually see it,” he said.
“You would think if it is legitimate more than one person would have called us, but each time it is one person,” he added.
After the clown sightings surfaced at the end of September, Fontenot said he instructed his officers to arrest anyone wearing a clown mask or makeup in public.
The fine for illegal masking is up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500, or both, the chief said.
There are exceptions to the ban such as Mardi Gras, Halloween and parade.
Besides the woman reported being chased, other clown sightings reported to police, according to the police dispatch log at 7:48 p.m. near Dairy Queen (Clown just shakes his head when people pass), and near Cajun Fitness, which turned out to be a man wearing his overalls inside out.
