Two of the strongest forces in Louisiana politics have already taken sides for the Nov. 21 runoff in the governor’s race, with sheriffs coalescing behind state Rep. John Bel Edwards and an influential faction of the oil lobby backing U.S. Sen. David Vitter.
More than 3,000 voters cast early ballots in both St. Landry and Acadia parishes as the race to see who will lead Louisiana for the next four years draws closer.
The two, top state races are the governor and lieutenant governor elections.
Early voting for the Oct. 24 election begins Saturday and continues through Oct. 17.
And, the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 21 election is Oct. 21.

A lawsuit aimed at disqualifying one of two candidates for the Distrct 8 seat on the Acadia Parish Police Jury was dismissed.
The lawsuit filed by Gibson Miller challenged the residency of Felton “Tony” Moreau, who is running against incumbent Robert Guidry in the Oct. 24 election.
