3-vehicle wreck claims life in Acadia Parish

A three-vehicle wreck on La. 97 near Gotts Cove Road in Acadia Parish claimed the life of Darrel Duhon, 71, of Jennings, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The wreck occurred at about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Police stated Jose Gonzalez, 46, of Iota, was traveling north on La. 97 in a 1989 Marmon farm vehicle, towing a flat-bed trailer. While traveling north, Gonzalez was forced to slow down due to farm equipment occupying the northbound lane of travel, police stated.
Duhon was operating his 2003 Honda motorcycle north behind Gonzalez as he began to slow down. Duhon struck the left side of the flat-bed trailer and was ejected off of the motorcycle, police stated Duhon and the motorcycle, slid into the southbound lanes and was struck by a 2016 Ford Truck, operated by Jose Roque-Valverde, 56, of Bunkie, police stated.
Duhon was wearing a DOT approved helmet, but suffered critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Gonzalez and Roque-Valverde were both wearing seat belts and were not injured. Gonzalez and Roque-Valverde both submitted to a chemical breath test and were found not to be impaired. Toxicology samples were taken from Duhon and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
