Chavis seeking Acadia Ward 3 JP post

Penny Duplechain Chavis is a candidate for Acadia Parish Justice of the Peace, Ward 3 in the Nov. 4 primary.
She is a life-long resident of Church Point and Ward 3.
She is the daughter of Lloyd and the late Lucy Duplechain.
She and her husband, Winthrop Chavis, Sr., have two children, Winthrop II and Paige Simone and are the proud parents of five, Winthrop Julian Chavis, Winthrop Chavis II, Reginald Duplechain, Desiree Duplechain, and Paige Simone Chavis.
The candidate attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School and Our Mother of Peace Catholic School, West Church Point Junior High and graduated from Church Point High School in 1980.
She attended Delta Business College and received a certification in Business and Stenography.
She attended LSU Eunice and received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and went to ULL and received a Bachelor Degree in General Studies with a concentration in Behavioral Science, minoring in English and Psychology.
For the past 11 years Chavis was the Social Services Director at Acadia-St. Landry Nursing Home. In August she accepted a position with the Acadia Parish School Board as a Teacher’s Assistant, working towards her teacher’s certification.
She is a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and is currently the Grand Lady of St. Lucy Court #79. Chavis is also a CCD Teacher, 9th Grade Confirmation. She has been a Notary for 22 years.
