Disaster relief received form Hearts With Hands

Hearts With Hands, a disaster relief program from Asheville, North Carolina, helped Eunice out Monday as an 18-wheeler tractor trailer rolled into Eunice. The trailer was fully loaded with disaster relief supplies for Eunice residents affected by the weekend flood.
Alderman Jason Bertrand found out about the Christian, social services, non-profit organization through a friend in Eunice, who received help when she lived in Georgetown.
The organization assists victims in times of disaster. Bertrand took action, knowing that Eunice residents could benefit from the service.
On Saturday, Eunice city marshals, Eunice police canvassed Eunice residents who were affected by flooding.
“These teams knew which homes were desperately affected. These teams had rescued residents from their homes,” Bertrand said.
Letters about Hearts With Hands were distributed by volunteer reserves, house by house on Sunday, after assessment of homes damaged and those affected by the flood storm. Residents completed the letter information, names, address, phone number and checked off what supplies were in need for their family.
The Hearts With Hands tractor-trailer was unloaded by Charles Miller, with a fork lift by Sattler Supply. Miller, a city marshal reserve, geared the forklift unloading many boxes of supplies.
Donald Jennings, field operations director from Asheville, was among Eunice volunteers helping to unload supplies. Eunice volunteers from Word Ministries, city marshals, city police reserve, police, firefighters, city marshals, aldermen Jason Bertrand and Nootsie Sattler, were on hand assisting with boxes of supplies.
The volunteers met Eunice residents at their vehicles as they pulled up.
Hearts With Hands supplied disaster relief items of cases of bottled water, personal hygiene products and staples, diapers, paper towels and toilet paper, non-perishable food items (pop top cans of foods), T-shirts, baby wipes, clean up kits of cleaning spray, bleach wipes, a bucket, trash bags. Each food items box included a King James version of John and Romans booklet is placed.
“This disaster relief, I learned, is mostly strictly funded by donations,” Bertrand said.
