The following is from the May 1999 files of The Eunice News.
Eunice High School history teacher Deborah E. Tatman was awarded the James Madison Fellowship. Only one fellowship was awarded by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation of Washington, D.C., in each state.
Jeanne Menard of Eunice High School and Jennifer Ardoin of St. Edmund High School were named to the 1998-1999 Academic All-State Girls Basketball Composite Team. Ardoin was named at guard and Menard at forward. Both had 4.0 GPAs. Others named included Kim Fontenot, honorable mention; Valerie Vige, Class A first team; Vivian McGee, honorable mention. Boys named were Hans Heinen, Nick Heinen, Chuck Bowie and Andre Fontenot, Class A first team.
John R. Young Chevrolet-Buick advertised a 1996 Caprice Classic for $15,800. The advertisement stated the car had 29,000 miles on it.
A new foot bridge at the Natural Trail Park was pictured in the May 27 edition. The bridge offered a shortcut across the park. In the photo were Herman Francois, community service supervisor; Mayor Kenneth Peart; and council members Chawana Fontenot, Nolton Anderson and Louis Pavur.
Ann Pulling was in a photograph showing her holding a 19-inch catfish she caught at the City Walking Park. The caption reported she had to call her father to help pull the fish out of the water.
Keri Cart, a 1999 graduate of Eunice High School, received the Wilson J. Moosa Memorial Scholarship to LSUE.
