LSU alumna Belle Wheelan, president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, delivered the keynote address, and 672 students received degrees during LSU’s 287th commencement ceremony on Aug. 7.

Recently there has been extensive criticism of private fund raising at LSU based only on the university’s endowment. In 1981 the University’s endowment was $3.0 million and the Foundation had two employees.
