Timber executive

ALEXANDRIA – Services for retired timber executive Ellils Martin will be Tuesday. He died Oct. 18 at age 96.
He was former president, chairman and CEO of Roy O. Martin Lumber Co. including its timber, wood-products manufacturing, oil and gas and real estate holdings.
Survivors include five children.
Arrangements are byt Hixson Bros.

NSU Coach, teacher

NATCHITOCHES – Services for educator and coach Dr. Ernest “Slim” Howell will be Tuesday. He died at age 89.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, participating in the invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach on D-Day. After the war, he was a football and track star at Northwestern State. He coached Vinton High to the state football championship game twice and also coached Franklinton High.
He coached at NSU from 1955 until 1966, when he became associate professor of health at NSU. He was a scout for the San Francisco 49ers, and volunteer coach at Natchitoches Academy. After retiring from NSU, he taught high school in several parishes.
Survivors include three children.
Arrangements are by Blanchard-St. Denis.

Restaurants owner

JENNINGS – Services for restaurant operator Harold Guidry, Sr. will be Monday. He died Oct. 19 at age 77.
He was owner of Plantation House and Jean Lafitte restaurants for more than 18 years each.
Survivors include his wife Brenda, four sons and a step-son.
Arrangements are by Matthews & Son.

Teacher-lawyer

LAFAYETTE – Services for educator and lawyer Mary Hamilton will be Tuesday. She died Oct. 19 at age 66.
She began her working career as an educator and was director of the St. James Episcopal Day School in Alexandria and later a teacher at Pineville High. She changed careers, went to law school and became a partner in the firm of Voorhies and Labbe.
Survivors include her husband Willard, a daughter and step-daughter and her mother.
Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.
