Blue Jays visit Cedar Creek

For the second time in the past four years, the St. Edmund Blue Jays have advanced the state quarterfinals.
The No. 5 Blue Jays are travelling to No. 4 Cedar Creek on Friday.
“Our kids deserve this game,” St. Edmund head coach Thomas David said. “They have fought all year and battled injuries.
“Every time someone has gone down, some one else has stepped up and got the job done.”
In 2010, No. 7 St. Edmund was upset 15-6 at No. 15 White Castle in the quarterfinals.
“This group has experience in the playoffs,” the coach said of his team. “Hopefully we can take another step.”
The last time the Blue Jays faced Cedar Creek, No, 8 St. Edmund fell 21-6 to the No. 25 Cougars in 2008.
Cedar Creek (8-3) rolled to a 40-8 win over Catholic High of Pointe Coupee last week to advance.
Donald Jenkins rushed 22 times for 201 yards and a touchdown while Mark Van rushed 17 times for 135 yards and three scores.
“They are a good ball club,” David said. “They can both run and throw.”
Catholic-PC’s only score came a 27-yard TD pass from Jonas Guichet to Landon LeMay.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown accounted for 403 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns in the Blue Jays’ 48-34 regional round win over Ascension Catholic.
Brown gained 259 yards on 33 carries and scored on runs of 9, 90, 5 and 5 yards. He completed 12-of-19 passes for 144 yards with touchdown tosses to Stone LeJeune (15 yards) and Chase Dupre (6 yards).
“We hang our hat on the fact that we play hard,” David said. “We may not out quick or out-size a team, but we will fight to the end.”
David said he is pleased with the performance of his offensive and defensive front lines as they have led the way this season.
“The huge part of being balanced on offense goes to our offensive line as we can pick and choose when we want to throw and run.”
Execution is the key to a win, according to the coach.
“We have said all year it is not about who we play, but how we play.
“We are ready to take care of business.”
